Substitutes
If you have a Bachelor's degree and have passed the CBEST exam, enjoy children, and would like to work on an on-call basis, substitute teaching may be for you! To be eligible for a substitute credential, you must provide proof of your Bachelor's degree and CBEST exam, and be fingerprinted. Effective October 1, 2007, the cost for your first California substitute teaching credential and fingerprint clearance is $106, plus an additional rolling fee (paid at fingerprint processing location). Subsequent renewal credentials are $102.50. If you already possess a valid CA teaching credential, you are already eligible to sub.
Starting pay is $200 a day, incentive pay (after 35 days in BUSD in a single school year) is $215 a day, and long-term assignment pay (after 19 consecutive days for the same teacher, retroactive to the first day of assignment) is $225 a day.
