Community Celebrations - April

MENA-SWANA Heritage Month

MENA–SWANA Heritage Month is a time to recognize and celebrate the histories, cultures, and contributions of people from the Middle East, North Africa, and Southwest Asia. It highlights the region’s rich diversity—spanning languages, religions, and traditions—while also honoring the impact of MENA–SWANA communities around the world, especially in areas like art, science, literature, and social change. The month also encourages education, cultural pride, and greater understanding of these communities’ experiences and identities.

BUSD Parents and Guardians,

We are excited to share with you that we will be continuing our Community Celebration lessons during this school year. We want you to know that we have posted all lessons on our BUSD website. We have also included a FAQ document to explain the ‘why’ behind these lessons and answer some of the questions we have received. Please know that we continue to work on these lessons in order to fine-tune them and make sure they communicate our focus on inclusion and the contributions from members of the communities represented in these lessons. The lessons, sequence of months, and the FAQ can be found here: https://www.brentwood.k12.ca.us/page/community-celebrations
