About the English Language Advisory Council (ELAC)
The English Language Advisory Council (ELAC) - is composed of staff and parents whose students' home language is other than English. The council advises and assists in the planning, implementation and evaluation of the School Site Plan with particular emphasis on bilingual students and parents.
Who may be members of the English Learner Advisory Council?
The English Learner Advisory Council is composed of parent, staff, and/or interested community members. The percentage of parents of English learners on the committee must be equal to at least the same as that of English learners at the school.
Who may attend English Learner Advisory Council meetings?
All English Learner Advisory Council meetings are open to the public and all members of our community are encouraged to attend. At every meeting, an opportunity to speak to a topic not on the agenda is offered to anyone who is interested in addressing the English Learners Advisory Council.
What are the major responsibilities of the Council?
The major responsibilities of this advisory council include the following:
Development of a detailed master plan for English learner education for the school and submit the plans to the district governing board for its possible consideration and inclusion in the district’s English learner education master plan.
Development of the school’s needs assessment.
Administration of the school’s annual language census.
Ways to make parents aware of the importance of regular school attendance.
